I know, I sound like a broken record but… news flash: it’s STILL cold in Chicago! We have definitely entered into that time of year when you spend way more time inside than usual. Since I also work from home a lot, I’ve been feeling the itch to update my apartment – which (admittedly) I’ve never really done before. This is the first apartment I’ve lived in that really feels like “home” and I’m starting to think it deserves more than hand me downs and cheap pieces. I mean, if I’m there all the time it should be as cute as possible, right?!
When I was trying to pick out something for my wall on Minted, my interior design guru (Ali) told me to “pick something that makes you happy and takes you to another place.” With that in mind, I quickly settled on this gorgeous photo of the Ligurian Coastline. Where would I rather be during a Chicago winter? Umm Italy? Yes. Please. Thank you.
My other favorite addition to my home is Savor by Shauna Niequist. She’s one of my favorite authors, and this collection of daily devotionals doesn’t disappoint. Yes, she incorporates God and religious elements in there, but the most profound passages are much more universal than that. For example:
“This is what I’m finding, in glimpses and flashes: this is it. That thing I’m waiting for, that adventure, that movie-score-worthy experience unfolding gracefully. This is it. Normal, daily life ticking by on our streets and sidewalks, in our houses and apartments, in our beds and at our dinner tables, in our dreams and prayers and fights and secrets. This pedestrian life is the most precious thing any of us will ever experience.
I believe that this way of living and noticing and building and crafting can crack through the movie sets and soundtracks that keep us waiting for our own life stories to begin, and set us free to observe the lives we have been creating all along without even realizing it.”
That + Bittersweet… don’t you want to read all her stuff now?! SO GOOD.
So, I’ll enjoy my little apartment. I’ll whine about the cold and wish I was in Italy – but all the while appreciating the beautiful city I live in, the wonderful people I have in my life, and all of the possibilities around me. Plus… sometimes snuggling up at home with a good book isn’t so bad 🙂
