I’ll admit, Thanksgiving food has never been my favorite. There’s so much meat and butter and cream, and so much of it comes from cans! Even before I started learning about nutrition, that always threw me off. I could eat freshly made Italian food, or canned cranberry? ITALIAN FOOD PLZ.
Luckily, my mom has always found ways to make Thanksgiving her own, and I absolutely love her for it. She didn’t like canned cranberry, so she decided to make her own homemade version. Genius! But while she stirs over the stove, I decided to make her idea just a little bit easier. Introducing: Crockpot Cranberry Apple Sauce. AKA set-it-and-forget-it Cranberry Apple Sauce.
I think my favorite part of this recipe is that it’s totally foolproof. All you do is add the ingredients to your crockpot and set the temperature and timer. That’s literally it. So, if you’re the gal who freaks out when the host asks you to bring something to their Thanksgiving dinner, I GOTCHU GIRL. Don’t stress, just make this! After all, Thanksgiving is supposed to be fun, right?
The one ingredient from my Mom’s recipe that I knew I wasn’t going to skip is Sparkling Apple Cider. This is the main reason why you don’t have to sweeten this cranberry apple sauce with tons of sugar. It’s just sweet enough to bring out the flavor of the apples and offset the tartness of the cranberries. The perfect ingredient for this recipe!
Seriously, so good. And don’t worry, if you’d prefer it to be sweeter – just sneak a little extra honey (or even sugar) in there. I won’t tell on you!
Are you Team Homemade or Team Canned when it comes to cranberry sauce?
